The Music program at HCC offers an AA in Music degree in addition to supporting the core curriculum and encouraging the general study of music for all HCC students. Courses that fulfill the Creative Arts Core requirement include MUSI 1302 Fundamentals of Music, MUSI 1306 Music Appreciation, MUSI 1307 Music Literature, and MUSI 1310 American Music. These courses are available in face to face and distance education sections. Other classes are offered in applied music (Guitar, Piano, and Voice), ensembles (Instrumental and Vocal) and limited private instruction (permission numbers are required, and majors receive priority registration). The curriculum aligns with the state Field of Study in Music and is transferrable to public institutions in Texas. Graduates from the HCC music program transfer to many institutions both in and out of the state of Texas, and work professionally in the field. Professional musicians and teaching artists serve on the faculty and specialize in classical, jazz, and new music.
