Africana/African American Studies - Specialization, I.C.


The Africana/African American Studies - Specialization Institutional Certificate is part of the Interdisciplinary Studies, A.A.  degree.  The specialization is a 12 semester hour certificate program designed to help students understand Africana/African American culture and experience from various perspectives and viewpoints. It affords students the opportunity to examine “Blacks in the Diaspora,” and understand the diversity and complexities of these unique people. Upon graduation, students will be prepared for the following career and education choices: college/university transfer, majors such as education and liberal arts, the social and natural sciences, criminal justice, and the visual and performing arts. Additionally, for those pursuing degrees or certificates in various workforce and applied science fields, the Africana/African American Studies certificate enhances your familiarity and understanding of diverse cultures in preparation for employment in an increasingly multi-cultural region. (All courses are core curriculum courses and will transfer as core to all Texas public universities.)
