TRAI 1375 - Translation and Interpretation in Cross-Cultural Communication

Credits: 3

This course explores the role of translation and interpretation in cross-cultural communication. Translators and interpreters have a fundamentally important role in the cross-cultural dialogue that drives international business, scientific and technical progress, literature, art, and social relations. Acting as cross-cultural experts and mediators, they help to convey meaning across linguistic and cultural barriers in many settings: from court appearances to healthcare appointments, from international conferences to business negotiations, and from books and articles to websites, mobile apps, and movies. In this course, students will learn how cultural differences affect communication and what role translators and interpreters have in cross-cultural communication.
